Art Against Dictatorship Exhibition and Opening Ceremony

The Third Way Belarus and Belarusan Museum in New York in cooperation with the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (U.S. Helsinki Commission) and the German Marshall Fund of the United States will hold an opening reception of Art Against Dictatorship Exhibition on Monday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the foyer of Rayburn House Office Building.
Among the speakers at the event will be Pavel Marozau, Chair of the Congress of New Belarusian Diaspora in Europe and the United States and Belarusian dissident; Representative of U.S. Helsinki Commission; Representatives of the Belarusian Diaspora in US and Belarusan Museum in New York; Anastasios Sarikas, a well-known lawyer and supporter of Belarusian Art Movement; Belarusian artists Ales Shaternik, Yahor Batalyonak, Belarusian-American artists Yelena Tylkina and Yulia Shaternik. There will be photos and videos about the current situation in Belarus.
The dictatorship of President Lukashenka’s regime over the past 14 years has dramatically marginalized the diversity of Belarusian national culture and arts. Those artists who tried to express their freedom through the language of arts have been subjected to continuous marginalization and suppression.
Art Against Dictatorship presents the paintings and sculptures of the most prominent Belarusian dissident artists and features alternative arts that are an integral part of Belarusian national culture but for political reasons have not been able to fully serve the people of Belarus. The Exhibition offers unique insight into contemporary Belarusian art, which currently is not displayed anywhere else in its diversity.
The Exhibition and the reception will take place in the foyer of Rayburn House Office Building (two blocks from Capitol South metro station). Please use the visitor and staff entrance located on South Capitol Street.
The exhibition is open to the public: Monday, November 23 from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Tuesday, November 24 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

ЗША падоўжылі змякчэнне санкцый супраць двух прадпрыемстваў «Белнафтахіма»
Мінфін ЗША у чарговы раз падоўжыў рашэнне пра змякчэнне санкцый супраць двух беларускіх прадпрыемстваў канцэрна «Белнафтахім» – ААТ «Лакафарба» і «Полацк-Шкловалакно».
Як паведамляе афіцыйны сайт Мінфіна, рашэнне падоўжана па 31 траўня 2010 года.
У пазначаны перыяд амерыканскім грамадзянам дазволена супрацоўніцтва з двумя беларускімі прадпрыемствамі.
У той жа час уласнасць ААТ «Лакафарба» і «Полацк-Шкловалакно» застаецца заблакаванай у адпаведансці з ураднымі распараджэннямі № 13405. Грамадзянам ЗША забаронена праз ці пры пасярэдніцтве гэтых двух прадпрыемстваў набываць прадукцыю, паслугі і тэхналогіі ў іншых суб’ектаў гаспадарання, унесеных у спіс (маецца на ўвазе спіс прадпрыемстваў «Белнафтахіма», супраць якіх санкцыі дзейнічаюць зараз), перадае БелаПАН.
Нагадаем, у лістападзе 2007 года ЗША увялі эканамічныя санкцыі супраць канцэрна «Белнафтахім» у сувязі з парушэннем правоў чалавека ў Беларусі.
У сакавіку 2008 года, пасля таго, як улады Беларусі адмовіліся вызваляць былога кандыдата ў прэзідэнты Аляксандра Казуліна (на той момант – апошняга з шасці прызнаных міжнароднай супольнасцю палітвязняў), ЗША увялі санкцыі супраць усіх прадпрыемстваў, якія ўваходзяць у склад «Белнафтахіма». Менск і Вашынгтон адклікалі сваіх амбасадараў для кансультацый. Да сённяшнягя дня штаты абедзвюх амбасадаў скарочаны да мінімуму.
5 верасня 2008 года Мінфін ЗША на паўгады змякчыў эканамічныя санкцыі супраць двух ААТ – «Лакафарба» і «Полацк-Шкловалакно». У лютым 2009 года дзеянне гэтага рашэння было падоўжана да 1 ліпеня, затым – да 30 лістапада 2009 года.
